Community Service

Gifted Homeschoolers of Central Phoenix is proud to participate in several community service projects.  This is just a general listing but all the details for each event will be in  regular posts as well as on our Facebook page.

USDA Food Distribution Program
On the second Friday of every month we help distribute food to the needy.  This usually entails unpacking food boxes, assisting recipients to their vehicles and cleaning up afterward.  Occasionally we bring used books and small toys to hand out to the children of those receiving food boxes. The distribution point where we help is located at Trinity Lutheran Church, 9424 N. 7th Avenue. www.tlcphx.org  We meet at 12:30 and are usually done by 2pm.

Communities in Schools Collections
Communities in schools is an organization working to meet the non-academic needs of school children in economically depressed neighborhoods.  Twice each year they ask other organizations in the community to assist in collecting items for students.  In the Fall there is a Winter Coat and New Shoe Drive, in the Spring a Backpack and School Supply Drive for the upcoming school year. Our group participates in the collection and donations of these items.  Watch the blog and Facebook page for dates and details.

Food Bank Supplies
Trinity Lutheran Church (9424 N. 7th Ave, www.tlcphx.org) maintains an onsite food bank for the needy.  It is open one day each week and distributes non-perishable food, personal hygiene items and cleaning supplies to those that need them.  They rely on the larger community to help keep their shelves stocked.  Our group is one of those that regularly contributes.  Donations can be taken directly to this location or given to our group's events coordinator for delivery.

Kinding Missions
(KIND Healthy Snacks, makers of granola bars and various other snack items)
www.KINDsnacks.com/world/mission
"Kind is on a mission to make the world a little kinder...and needs your help!  Each month, KIND challenges it's community to carry out a specific KINDING Mission (an unexpected KIND act) on the first Tuesday of the month (KIND Tuesday).  If enough people sign up to complete that month's KINDING Mission, KIND carries out a BIG KIND Act for groups and communities that really need it. One KIND act from you can make a BIG difference in the lives of others.  Example- In February, KIND asked it's community to give a warm beverage to someone who lends a hand, and after reaching the monthly goal of 100 people, KIND hand delivered new winter coats to 100 homeless New Yorkers."  (reprinted from their website)
Our homeschool group often participates in the 'missions.'  Look for notifications of upcoming missions.

Our group may also participate in other community service events throughout the year.  Look for info on the blog and Facebook page for details.
