What we're working on now:
- a new article on Sensitivity and the highly sensitive childkimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01963876068608927377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7568250622929024286.post-45965141101807630112011-09-09T05:36:00.000-07:002011-09-09T05:36:01.029-07:00Books We Like There are so many amazing and informative books available to help you learn about gifted children and how to homeschool them, this is just a sampling. Let us know if you have another to recommend!

Creative Homeschooling, A Resource Guide For Smart Families by Lisa Rivero
This is one of the best books available on homeschooling the gifted child. The 'Big Ideas For Big Thinkers' method for unit studies is the one we use in our homeschool.

Growing Up Gifted by Barbara Clark
This one reads like a textbook but is a great reference tool to learn about giftedness.

The Successful Homeschool Family Handbook by Dr. Raymond and Dorothy Moore
Considered the grandparents of homeschooling and developers of the Moore Formula.
Also, any other books by these authors, there are several!

What Do I Do on Monday? by John Holt
The founding father of the modern unschooling movement. (Check out other titles by him too!)

The Relaxed Homeschool by Mary Hood, Ph.D.

The Unschooling Handbook, How to Use the Whole World as Your Child's Classroom by Mary Griffith

The Big Book of Home Learning by Mary Pride
From a religiously conservative standpoint but extremely comprehensive and helpful.

The Successful Child, What Parents Can Do To Help Their Child Turn Out Well by William Sears, M.D.
and Martha Sears, R.N.
From the same authors of the Attachment Parenting books

Living With Intensity- Edited by Susan Daniel, Ph.D and Micheal M. Piechowski, Ph.D.
Understanding the Sensitivity, Excitability, and Emotional Development of Gifted Children, Adolescents
and adults.

The Highly Sensitive Person and The Highly Sensitive Child both by Elaine N. Aron, Ph.D.
Understanding the characteristic of sensitivity often found in the gifted.

The Duggars: 20 and Counting by Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar
You may have seen the reality T.V. show '19 Kids and Counting' featuring this family. They have
successfully homeschooled all of their children, (they have 19 of them!) and have lots of wisdom on the
topic.

Make it Fast, Cook it Slow by Stephanie O'Dea
This is the best crock pot cookbook in the world! So helpful when your busy teaching or your
counter tops are covered with science experiments. There is a chapter called Fun Stuff which shows you
how to do crafts and make cool stuff .
