Books We Like

     There are so many amazing and informative books available to help you learn about gifted children and how to homeschool them,  this is just a sampling. Let us know if you have another to recommend!

Creative Homeschooling, A Resource Guide For Smart Families by Lisa Rivero
     This is one of the best books available on homeschooling the gifted child.  The 'Big Ideas For Big Thinkers' method for unit studies is the one we use in our homeschool.

Growing Up Gifted by Barbara Clark
     This one reads like a textbook but is a great reference tool to learn about giftedness.

The Successful Homeschool Family Handbook by Dr. Raymond and Dorothy Moore
     Considered the grandparents of homeschooling and developers of the Moore Formula.
     Also, any other books by these authors, there are several!

What Do I Do on Monday? by John Holt
     The founding father of the modern unschooling movement.  (Check out other titles by him too!)

The Relaxed Homeschool by Mary Hood, Ph.D.
The Unschooling Handbook, How to Use the Whole World as Your Child's Classroom by Mary Griffith

The Big Book of Home Learning by Mary Pride
     From a religiously conservative standpoint but extremely comprehensive and helpful.

The Successful Child, What Parents Can Do To Help Their Child Turn Out Well by William Sears, M.D.
     and Martha Sears, R.N.
     From the same authors of the Attachment Parenting books

Living With Intensity- Edited by Susan Daniel, Ph.D and Micheal M. Piechowski, Ph.D.
     Understanding the Sensitivity, Excitability, and Emotional Development of Gifted Children, Adolescents
     and adults.

The Highly Sensitive Person and The Highly Sensitive Child both by Elaine N. Aron, Ph.D.
     Understanding the characteristic of sensitivity often found in the gifted.

The Duggars: 20 and Counting by Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar
     You may have seen the reality T.V. show '19 Kids and Counting' featuring this family.  They have
     successfully homeschooled all of their children, (they have 19 of them!) and have lots of wisdom on  the

Make it Fast, Cook it Slow by Stephanie O'Dea
     This is the best crock pot cookbook in the world! So helpful when your busy teaching or your
     counter tops are covered with science experiments. There is a chapter called Fun Stuff which shows you
     how to do crafts and make cool stuff . (In your crock pot!)
